Johnston Press plc, one of the UK═s leading regional newspaper publishers, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Directors: Leslie Hinton as a non-executive Director and Danny Cammiade as an executive director in the role of Chief Operating Officer, both with immediate effect.
Leslie Hinton has worked for the News Corporation for over 30 years as a journalist and manager in Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In 1976 he moved from London to New York as a foreign correspondent for the group═s newspapers in Britain and Australia. After several executive positions, he was appointed President of Murdoch Magazines in 1990, two years later becoming President and Chief Executive Officer of News America Publishing, responsible for the company═s US publishing operations. In 1993 he was appointed Chairman and CEO of Fox Television Stations, returning to London in 1995 as Executive Chairman of News International Ltd, the main UK subsidiary of the global media company The News Corporation Limited. Mr Hinton is a member of the News Corporation Executive Committee. In 1996 he joined the board of the Press Association in Britain. In October 1998, he was elected Chairman of the newspaper and magazine publishing industry═s Code of Practice Committee which sets the code implemented by the Press Complaints Commission.
Danny Cammiade joined the industry in 1978 as a sales representative with T R Beckett. When Johnston Press acquired T R Beckett in 1992, Mr Cammiade was Marketing Director of their Worthing operation. In 1994 he was appointed Managing Director of another Johnston Press subsidiary, West Sussex County Times Limited, until in 1996 he became Divisional Managing Director of the Company═s North Midlands Division. Following the acquisition of Portsmouth & Sunderland Newspapers plc in 1999, Mr Cammiade was given control of the Portsmouth-based operations and soon after of an expanded South of England Division which also incorporated the previously owned businesses in that region. He was appointed Director of Operations in 2001 with responsibility for the day-to-day publishing and printing activities of the entire Group. In addition to his company responsibilities, Mr Cammiade is also Chairman of the Newspaper Society═s Marketing Committee and a member of its Council.
